HOKITIKA MUNICIPAL BAND

The annual meeting of the Hokitika Municipal Band was held in the Band room last night. There was a good attendance of members. An apology was received for the absence of Mr C. B. Ross (Conductor), \vho was indisposed. Mr W. E. Richards was voted to the Chair. The financial position of the Band showed that the receipts for the year amounted to £6l 9s 2d, and the expenditure to £B2 4s Bd. showing a deficit of £2O los 6d on the year’s work. The Band, however, .still have a credit balance of £67 Is Bd. In a resume of the year the Chairman referred to the vicissitudes the Band went through which militated against playing out programmes. Among those mentioned was the illness of the Conductor for several weeks, the disorganisation of practices through the earthquakes, and the inability of members to attend when the Band was to play a programme. These were responsible for the non-appearance of the Band in public as much as it desired. An appeal was made to the members to attend regularly this year and endeavour to retrieve, their position.

Appreciation of the public’s liberality to the Band was also expressed. Votes of thanks were passed to the Conductor (Mr C. B. Ross), Bandmaster (Air Richards), Secretary (Mr Good), Treasurer (Air J. Stapleton), Librarian (Air R. Roberts) and the Caretaker (Mr D. McLeod), and these were all re-elected to their respective office, and the Committee, Messrs A. Pnrkhill. AY. 'K. Richards, G. Raine and L. S. Ross were also re-elected. A hearty vote of appreciation was passed to Air and Airs Ross (senr.) and daughters for their kind hospitality on every Christmas morning. ' The Band decided to attend the excursion to Rcefton on Wednesday next.
