A meeting in Sydney decided, subject to ratification by sporting unions, to accept the invitation that Australia be represented at the Empire Games in Canada, in August.

'A Bill is projected Tor a coming State Parliamentary session providing for the betterment of a tax to help pay for railways and other public works. Another measure is the Transport Bill, which is designed to create a trust to co-ordinate train and bus services. The Liquor Bill will make drastic alterations in the method of granting. new licenses. It will also institute a local poll before a fresh hotel is opened and amend the trading hours.

EXCHANGE IMPROVEMEXT. SYDNEY, Feb. 6

Yesterday’s improved tone on the Stock Exchange added £3,000,000 to half of the sound securities on the market.

A DOCTOR’S STRICTURES. (Received this day at 9.40 a.m.l SYDNEY, Feb. 6. Doctor Martin, late government medical officer in Solomon Islands, states a lack of serum resulted in the death of approximately 250 natives from infantile paralysis during the recent epidemic. With proper supplies <i iise miig’it have been reduced to under 50, and the amount of disablement ■ lessened in proportion. Dr Martin pointed out the fact that steamers came to Sydney from the port of Vanikora without adequate medical supervision;. Persons untouched by the disease might be carriers of the germs. A rigid inspection was necessary.

PROPOSED FLY. SYDNEY, Februaryfl. Flying officers Piper and Kaye of the Royal Australian Air Force, have been granted special leave to proceed t<3 England in a few days, whence they propose to start in Herm’s De Soutter plane in ail attempt to reach Australia in twelve days. Arrangements are being made for oil supplies along the route. BANK AGREEMENT. CANBERRA, February 6. REAR. ADMIRAL EVANS. (Received this day at 10 a.m.) HOBART, February 6. Speaking at a civic reception, Rear Admiral Evans said the people were forgetful of the needs of national defence. The clays of the Silent Navy and Quiet Army had passed. He felt that Australia’s reductions had come down to an absurdity and he urged the co-operation of all citizens to maintain that spirit of patriotism which had animated many thousands o<f Australians to sacrifice their lives in the Great War.
