BOXING
LECKIE BEATEN
(By Telegraph— Per Press Association 1
WELLINGTON... Feb. .5,
;Peter Sarron, the Alabama \ Syrian, gave Johnny LtCkie, the New Zealander, a boxing lesson before' a crowded hall to-night. There was only one man in it. Revealing ringoraft of the highest grade, the American showed beautiful footwork, and speed. He practically did ns lie liked. S'irron rushed his man to the ropes in the second round, and drove a terrific* right to the nose, from which the New Zealander never recovered. He had difficulty in breathing, and was spitting blood, hut he gamely carried on until the end of the, ninth round when he intimated that lie was unable to continue, owing to the difficulty lie was experiencing in breathing, on account of his nose having been broken ,in the second round. It is not too much to say that the New Zealand public do not know how really clever a boxer Sarron is, as there is no one in this country capable of fully extending him; He proved himself the soul of chivalry this evening by refraining from unduly punishing a palpably beaten opponent.
