Duff. l : .ie nunuLesj were coimrmed and j outward \.o. rvupomieiice approved. | MOTIONS OF SYMPATHY.- ! | .The Chairman referred in feeling terms to the sad loss Westland Hospital had sustained by the recent death ■n .Matron Lloyd and moved that the Board place on record its deep sense ol the loss sustained i>y her death, its appreciation of the very valuable services rendered to the institution during her term of office, and deep syni- ‘ pa .hy with the relatives of deceased in the sad loss they had sustained..Mr Jeffries supported the motion m feeling terms, and the motion was carried in silence, members standing. The Cliai.man said he had another very sad reference to make, that of the deam of one of Iwcir members, Miff- A. Wells. Hr? deeply regretted the loss of dec-ear. <1 who was an old and honored rondont of the district who had served at tiro Board table for evornl years, proving a. very valuable member. He moved that the Boa id place on record its appreciation of valued past services and convey to the family and relatives its very deep sympathy in the loss they had suffered. Seconded by Mr Jeffries and carried in 'il'ine, members standing.
Mr Jeffries moved that tire Board take the necessary steps to have a suitable tab jet placed in position at Westland Hospital to the memory of Mie kite Matron Lloyd. .Seconded by Mr Keenan and carried.

From Minister of Railways and Dr "Valintine, in reference to the reserve adjoining the Board’s property alongside the railway line, opposite the uospi l; r I. —. Received. From Dr Valin tine in reference to returns—Received. From same stating enquiries were being made in reference to a motor ambulance. —Received. From Government Statistician acknowledging returns.—Receiver!. From Nelson, Ashburton, Bull&r and Gtey Boards, submitting statements re charges made for muses.-—Receiv-ed. ; . From Dr Bruce Baird, resigning position as medical superintendent of Westland Hospital, to take effect from March 31st. next.—Received. Mr Jeffries proved that the resigna? tion be accepted with deep regret. He paid a tribute to the splendid services rendered by Dr Baird during
the past ten years, during which period., he had at all times done good wprk, and carried out his duties with ability, and giving every satisfaction to the Board. The Chairman seconded the motion, endorsing the appreciative references of the mover. Messrs Duff, Davidson, Meh any and other members followed in a laudatory strain and the motion was agreed to. From Dr Allan Hopkins, of. Hamil-
ton, applying for the position of Surgeon Superintendent of Westland Hospital.—Received. The Chairman nxov.ed that the application be received and accepted, and the appointment ■made. The motion was agreed to. From Westland County Council, re cancer campaign.—Received and referred to Finance Committee for report.
F'rom Town Clerk, Kuxnara, asking Board to arrange or the transport of cases in a properly equipped ambulance.—. Received. It was resolved to reply pointing out the present arrangements and enquiring what amount would be given towards the provision of a motor ambulance. ’
From Sister Peters, forwarding her resignation.—Received and accepted with regret. Resolved that Nurse 'Goad be appointed Sister in her place.
It was resolved to invite applications lor the position of Matron, to be' received up to Saturday next, Feb. Bth, and that a special meeting to deal with same be held on Monday next at 7.30 p.m. From T. W. Bruce, applying for annual holidays.—Received and request granted. From F. W. Turley, Timber Workers’ t_ nion, in reference to further members admitted.—Received. . From North Canterbury Board foi--wurding agreements in connection with Tuberculosis Board.—Received and to be signed.. I Mr G. Davidson (House Committee Chairman) reported on the satisfactory condition of the hospital, and made a number of recommendations for requirements.—Received and adopted. , Accounts amounting to £574 9s Od were passed for payment.
, From Surgeon Superintendent, Westland Hospital, reporting on Dec. 31st. there were 37 patients. Admitted during January, 25 males, 20 females. Total treated, 50 males, 32 females—--82. Discharged cured, 25 males, 18 females ; relieved, 1 male; died, 1 male, I female. Total discharged 26 males, 20 (females. In hospital 31st. Jan. 2a males, 12 females—36. In hospital for two months, 10 males, 3 females—13.—Received.
The Treasurer reported receipts £1062 10s 9d, payments £1066 17s lOd, credit balnee £1219 12s Od.—Received. The Sub-Committee on the Matern tv Home reported .on very satisfactory conditions at the present time. —Received and approved. The next meeting was fixed for 10th.
