ENJOYABLE TRIP. LAKES AND GLACIERS VISITED. CHRISTCHURCH, January 29. “I’ve had a very enjoyable trip tlirough the South Island; it has been a real eye-opener,” said the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, Viscount Craigavon, who passed through Christchurch on the second express last evening on his way to Wellington. Viscount and Lady Craigavon, accompanied by Mr Ardell, ©f the Department of Internal Affairs, visited the West Coast, including the Franz Josef and Fox Glacier, the Hermitage Lakes Wakatipu and Wanaka,' Invercargill, Dunedin and Timaru. Lord Craigavon said that the weather had been delightful until they reached “sunny” Timaru, and then there was a refreshing break. The scenery on the West Coast was particularly attractive, especially the bush along the road from Hokitika to the Glaciers. The views looking across Lake Mapourika towards the Alps was one of Ijhe finest he had seen in all his travels. Viscount Craigavon, who has visited | Alpine regions in many other countries I said that the Franz Josef Glacier was an outstanding feature that one would not find anywhere else. Speaking of Mount Cook, he said that in the winter time it must be as fine as could be found in the Alps. Dairying and sheep farming in South Canterbury and Southland afforded me exactly the information I had been seeking,” he said. “I intend to discuss agricultural .'matters with the experts at Massey college, and before leaving New Zealand, I will give an address at Wellington.” Viscount and Lady Craigavon were met at the station by an Ulsterman who once liyed 'near them in Ireland, and each of the visitors was presented with a walking stick made by the donor. One stick was made of lance wood and the other of matipo. ' Another gift was a box of crimson man uka seed.
