There is as much difference between raw tobacco and toasted tobacco, as between raw potato and savoury chips. It’s not so much the material you use as the way in which you prepare it. Take, for instance, our finest N.Z. tobaccos. They are all toasted—hence their superiority. You need not be an expert to perceive the wonderful effect of the toasting process—flavour and. aroma will tell you. And they may be indulged in to any extent because the toasting eliminates the deleterious properties of the leaf and neutralises the poisonous nicotine, thus rendering the tobacco safe to smoke And—don’t forget that these tobaccos are the only toasted ones procurable. There are various brands: “lliverhead Gold” (mild and mellow); “Cavendish” (the sportsman’s smoko): “Navy Cut’’ (a choice medium) : and “Cut Plug No. TO” (full strength). These popular brands are exclusively manufactured by the National Tobacco On., Ltd., (pioneers of the N.Z. tobacco industry).
