TO CANCER FUND. (.By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 30. At the time of the recent visit to New Zealand, of AY. Sampson Handley, a well-known London surgeon and an authority on cancer, it was announced that Airs T. Dwan, of AVellington, bad generously given £IOOO for cancer research. It. is- now announced that olr'and Airs T. Dwan have donated an additional £SOO to the Wellington Division df the New Zealand Branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign. Air and Airs Dwan have also intimated to ■ the President of the Cancer Campaign (Dr. J. S. Elliot their intention to bequest- a sum of not less than £IO,OOO to the New Zealand Branch of the Campaign. The gift of £SOO will be placed to the credit of a fund, which is to he raised in Welling to i i district. The Prime Minister has forwarded the following message from Rotorua: “ I have just heard, with great pleasure, of the very generous donations winch Air and -Airs T. Dwan, of Wellington, have provided in connection with the British Empire Cancer Campaign. The recent gifts of £IOOO by them to the New Zealand movement, and of £SOO to the Wellington Centre have afforded evidence of their practical sympathy with the earnest efforts now being put in hand to deal with this very difficult problem. The further intimation that Mr and Airs Dwan will make provision for not less than an additional beqeuest of £IO,OOO towards the fund in New Zealand is worthy of the whole-hpfirted gratitude of the citizens of this Dominion, and 1 desire to express, on behalf of the Government, our keen appreciation of Mr and Airs Dwans’ public-spirited benevolence. Their action in this matter, indeed, affords a splendid example to those who have means and who desire to contribute, to come forward and generously support so worthy a cause which aims at the alleviation of widespread suffering, and at the elimination of a scourge whose increasing ravages give ground for serious anxiety, ont only in our midst, but also in the other countries of the world.”
