The value of gold produced in New Zealand from 1857 to 1928, is given at upwards of ninotv-threo and a-lialf millions sterling. Of this huge sum over twenty millions were produced on the West Coast. With the Minister of M ines paying a visit to the Coast, we are prompted to ask what is the poliev in mind in relation to the future of the gold-mining industry, and particularly in relation to Westland. This district is concerned chiefly in alluvial mining and along with Otago, it is the chief locality in the Dominion for alluvial deposits.
