MINING REGULATIONS
AMENDMENTS FORESHADOWED. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 27. “I consider it my duty, as Minister of -Mines, to place the safety of human lile before every other consideration,” stated the Hon W. A. Veitch, in speaking to a reporter yesterday upon possible amendments to the mining laws and regulations. “As a result of the report of the Royal Commission on the Linton mine disaster and in face of the fact that wc have had two coal mine explosions of some magnitude, I am going thoroughly into the matter of mining laws and regulations and the existing practice of all the coal mines in the Dominion, in order to draft such amendments to the mining laws and regulations as J consider necessary for the better protection of human life. When completed, these amendments w'ill be submitted to Cabinet and. if approved, they will be presented to Parliament next session.”
