150 AT GISBORNE. (By Telegraph—Per Tress AssociationA GISBORNE, Jan. 28. Unemployment is rife in Gisborne, and the position is now becoming more acute. To-day the Alayor, Air Coleman, forwarded the following telegram to the Alinister of Public Works :—“Deputations have waited upon me 'regarding unemployment. As there are approximately 150 men unemployed in Gisborne at present, 1 would urge that you authorise, the Gisborne office to place additional men on railway works in this district. Kindly treat the matter as urgent." The matter was referred to at the B-rough Council this evening, and it was decided to call a special meeting of the Finance Committee to consider the problem. The Alayor stated that the position, for this time of the year, was more acute than it had ever been before. WiLli the harvesting and other work going on, there should he no unemployment just- now.
