SUPER LAND TAX

HARDSHIP CASES. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. It will be some weeks- yet before the Commission that is investigating the cases of hardship arising out of the super-land t;lx imposed by last session’s legislation will be able to determine its itinerary for the taking of oral evidence. At the outset of its inquiry ;tho Commission, which consists of Messrs W. G. Riddell (chairman), and P. G. Clark and A. EFowler requested the taxpayers affected to forward their objections in writing, together with a statement of their financial position, supported hv affidavits. Some 578 taxpayers made application/ and the material forwarded bV them is now being considered by the Commissioners, who wii 11 r ujtimate)ly eliminate from thelist the cases in which it is proposed to get documentary evidence to grant relief, and' will arrange for the hearing of oral "'evidence in the oilier ca'ses. When the claims in the later category are sorted out, they will be tabulated into districts, and an itinerary mapped out. As the. commission is' endeavouring to transact most of its business in -Wellington, it is expected that at least three weeks will elapse before travelling commences. ' _
