A SERIOUS FIRE
(By Telegraph—Preee Association). THAMES, Jan. 29. A serious fire broke out at' Turua, Hauraki Plains,’ this morning at 2 o’clock when several premises were destroyed. A high wind was blowing and there was no water" supply or firelighting appliances. The fire was first detected in a shop owned by H. C. Christie, a grocer, in Hauraki Road. It spread to an a- rJ acent place used by Mrs Taylor, as a . dressmaking establishment, then spread to the garage owned and occupied by Bedford and Taylor. There were several cars in tlie building, but the majority were saved, with the exception of three carij and two traotols, which were totally destroyed. , ’ On /the. other side of .Christie’s, a house of five rooms, owned by J. A. Bennett and occupied by Cossen, also caught and was tdtdly'Meffroyhd. The cause is unknown. ‘ Insurances are not available.
