A dwelling and store ait Whangara owned and occupied by William Bright was destroyed by fire on Saturday night, whilst the occupants were away at a dance. Nothing was saved. MAORI GIRL DROWNED. DARGAVILLE, January 27. A Maori girl, Edith, a daughter of George Mfln, was drowned on Saturday afternoon in Awakino River, Waihu. The child was with her grandmother washing clothes in the river." CYCLIST INJURED.. BLENHEIM, January 27. A lad named Noel Reade, riding a motor cycle, collided with a telegraph pole in the main street and received a broken arm and broken leg. He was admitted to the hospital. ■SHOT BY AIR GUN. BLENHEIM, January 27. Patrick Corrigan, 17, was shot in he eye with an air gun pellet while,skylarking on Taylor* river bed. •; V f#CHILD’S LEG BROKEN. BLENHEIM, January ;,25% Frank Bythell, three years old, '•bthe son of F. E. Bythell of Blenheim, had a leg broken at Queen Charlotte Sound in his father’s arms when the latter slipped. The boy was taken to Picton and the leg set. OLD RESIDENT PASSES. . BLENHEIM, January 27. Patrick Meeham, a very old resident of Marlborough died on Sstur<Jpy nigjit He took a conspicuous part in the local government of the district having been a member of some half dozen bodies -: He was 74 years of age. .1 /’ . y-Y,'. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. AUCKLAND, January 27. Three men Rudolph Allan 54, David Todd 45, Edward Ruhard Black 48, (were committed for trial on a charge of breaking,into* an,, engifie'dr'tng shop,* stealing -metal 'fittings, casting'and 4n- ; gineering appliances valued at £BO. .A second hand dealer said two of the men brought metal to him on a-truck but he refused to buy. Another' dealer bought it but post-dated his cheque.
