CHARGED WITH BIGAMY

AUCKLAND, Jan. 24., “As far ns I know the accused is a bird of .passage,” said Chief Detective Hammond in the Police Court, when Ajrthur Ronald Harris, aged 34, a "motor salesman, was chargekl with having committed bigamy in England on October 4th. Detective Hammond added that a cablegram had .been, received from England staing that the "accused had committed bigamy on October 4th. and bad sailed for New Zealand "on the same day. He was being held ‘on a provisional warirant, and his extradition was desired. On the boat coming out, the' accused had got into the good graces of a wdman and her 'daughter,, stating that he was the holder of a title, and was a medical student. In applying for bail, Mr Smith, who appeared for the accused, said that, although the man had not been in the Dominion long, he had already established a school of motoring, which was bringing him in about £5 a week. If be were kept in prison, the business be had built up would be gone. The accused was remanded for eight days, bail being allowed at £250 on condition that the accused repotted to the police daily.
