CALGARY, Jan. 24

The United Farmers at the Alberta Convention, opposed assisted* immigration into Canada. They supported a stand that has been taken recently by the United. Farmers of Manitoba. They claimed that the serious unemployment situation is due to the present immigration policy. (Received tins day at 9. a.m.) \ ANCOUVER, Jan. 24. A report from Calgary states the United farmers of Alberta to-day (refused a ballot on a resolution favouring termination of Oriental immigration into Canada, and the cessation of property 'lights now vested in Oriental residents. The matter was referred to the Board of Directors arid win pitrbahly be brought lip next year. It was contended the matter .should have at least a year’s consideration. Alberta wheat pools had dealings with Orientals on a contract basis. The prtssage of resolution would involve property rights and rights as British subjects. J. E. Armishaw (President of British Columbia section of United farmers of Canada) stated“ The question is whether we retain the Pacific Province or see it cast into the Land of Orientals.” He said the immigration, question was so serious that neither Dominion political leaders dared mention it. A grave situation was being permitted for Imperial reasons. He claimed the Government was sacrificing the province’s agriculture for Oriental trade.
