TENNIS
A team of tennis players representative of the Christchurch Suburban Clubs' arrived in Hokitka on Thursday evening by train and had a cordial reception at the hands of local players. The happy idea of holding a moonlight picnic at Lake Kanieri was decided upon as a means of entertaining the visitors, and it proved an excellent means of entertainment. The cars left for the lake about 7.45 o’clock, and the scenic drive was enjoyed greatly by the visitors. At the lake the launch was requisitioned and the boat trip round the lake was an added joy. S'upper was served later at -Mrs Tulloch’s, which, also provided an opportunity for pleasant intercourse and a very jolly time was passed. The party returned to town aliout il o’cock.
The visitors were in competition with the local players at the Sewell St. court yesterday, and were able to account for the local players by winning 23 sets against 9 to the Hokitika team. The following were the scores: Ladies’ Singles: Canterbury o sets, Hokitika 3 sots. > Men’s Singles: Canterbury 5 sets, Hokitika 3 sots. Ladies’ Doubles: Canterbury 4 sets, Hokitika. 0 sets. Men’s Doubles: Canterbury 3 sets, Hokitika 1 set. Combined. Doubles: Canterbury 6 sets, Hokitika, 2 sets. Totals: Canterbury 23 . sets, Hokitika 9 sets. The visitors were well entertained during the day and a social was held in All Saints’ Hall la«t night. To-day the visitors are playing a. combined Erey and Hokitika, team at Grey, mouth, and later take part in the Reef ton tournament.
