TOURIST ENTERPRISE
IMPROVEMENTS AT ROTORUA. WELLINGTON, January 21. For the last few days the Hon. P. A de la Perrelle, who recently took over the office of Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts, has been holding a conference in Wellington to cement further the solid foundation already laid to draw overseas visitors to the Dominion and provide every facility in their travels. The Minister has inaugurated a special advertising campaign in Australia, and he has turned his attention to Rotorua improvements. The conference consisted of the Minister, Dr. Duncan, of, the Government Sanatorium, Rotorua, Messrs S. J. Collett, acting-Geneial' Manager of the Tourist Department, J. T. Mair, Government architect, Bennett, Assistant Under-Secretary of Public Works and A. H. Messenger, officer in charge of Publicity. The main object was to consider the provision of fresh and improved accommodation at the principal bath houses in Rotorua, and to effect repairs to many exstihg buildings. The Minister stressed the urgency of proceeding with the work provided for without delay. He was pleased to know that work in connection with the new pavilion and the Blue Bntha would be in full swing this month. The present pavilion and bath buildings were being dismantled. They would be removed to another site to provide accommodation for workmen and stores. It was proposed to make the new buildings up to date in equipment. In the new Blue Bath a lounge would be provided for bathers in which refreshments would be dispense!.
“As a result of the conference,” stated Mr de la Perrelle. “1 confidently anticipate that the new bath houses will l)e completely ready for utilisation next season. It is pleasing to know that- expedition is being exercised by the departments concerned in the carrying out of the work. It seems that improvement in some of the buildings in the thermal district tin long overdue. This the Government recognises. There should be no complaints, when the new buildings are in working order.” The Minister also stated that it was proposed to provide against dust arising from the main drive to the sanatorium grounds.
