His itinerary thereafter will be to Cloncurry and Charleville. „ BIMA REACHED. WELTEVREDEN, Jan. 23. Chichester has arrived at Bima. LETTER FROM CHICHESTER. ONLY FEW MONTHS’ TRAINING. WELLINGTON, Jan. ■ 23. An interesting letter describing his schooling as a pilot has been received by Mr Goodwin of Goodwin and Chichester, from his partenr, M. Chichester, written prior to leaving on his attempt to beat Bert Hinkler’s record single-handed flight to Australia. Mr Goodwin says that Chichester does not intend to fly from Australia to New Zealand, Mr Goodwin says: “He would not be foolish enough for that! He only learnt to fly after going Home, and at the time of writing he had had four months’ • experience, actually 160 hours flying. He was flying at two o’clock every morning to get experience of night flying, of which he would have so much to do on the trip to Australia. He had prepared for that trip maps measuring 71 feet. There were 1300 gallons of petrol put down for him by the Shell Company along the route, and it would cost him half a crown per gallon if he did ont beat the record.

FRENCH TRAGEDY. THE ’PLANE’S DROP. PARIS, Jan. 22. The ill-fated aeroplane landed fifteen yards from the cliff, but the impetus took it over the edge. The machine fell two hundred feet. Three of the bodies discovered were almost naked, with nearly all of-the bones broken. The body of a woman passenger is missing.
