BANKRUPT ARRESTED
(By Telegraph, Per Presß Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 23. Failing to attend the first meeting of his creditors, in December, with the result that it was resolved that he be arrested if found, John Albert Bitters was seen in New Plymouth by a creditor, and the Official Assignee ordered his arrest. At a meeting of creditors to-day, the Assignee said Bitters, who was a builder at Lower Hutt, appeared to be running a cabaret, under the name of Stafford. There were chairs, tabtes, and musical instruments in the place, but he was not certain to whom they belonged. In bankrupt’s statement the amount owing to secured creditors was put down at £I7OO, and the value of tne security at £3OOO, leaving a surplus of £I7OO, and the book debts were estimated to produce £IOOB, but the amounts owing to unsecured creditors were not given. There was a maintenance order for his wife and children against Bitters. The wife was wren a baby in a maternity hospital. The meeting adjourned till after Bitters is brought from New Plymouth.
