MADRID, Jan. 22, Five thousand students on strike at the Central University, hoisted on top a. red flag inscribed, “Long Life the Republic.” The police later hauled it down and continued to patrol the streets with armed rifles.

At opening of the Marketing Boards shop is Argyll Street Glasgow in whicli the Dominions will display for fortnightly periods commencing with New Zealand, -Mr Adamson Secretary of State for Scotland expressed the opinion if the displays equalled the high standard that had been set by New Zealand then success was assured. The first half of-the day resulted in a sale of thousands of samples. A house to house canvass is being inaugurated. NEW LINERS ORDERED. P. and O. COY’S FLEET. RUGBY, Jan. 20. Two new passenger liners, each pf 20,000 tons, with large saloon accommodation, each having a porthole open to the sea, have been ordered for the Australian route by the Peninsular and Oriental Company. The vessels will be built by the Vickers, Armstrong Company, at Borrow.
