WOOL SALES

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)

The entire lack of animation distinguishes ‘ the second Auckland wool sale which opened this morning. With a view to meeting the downward trend of prices, brokers had induced growers to mark a reserve at what seemed exceedingly poor figures but iow though these were, bids were still lower and lots were “passed" with wearisome! monotony. Bids for average fleeces ranged around 7d and Bd. It was soon apparent the values were below those at Napier early in the week. Shabby wools were down a lull penny and better class a halfpenny lower. Bradford did most of the buying, the Continent was working on lower limits picking up occasional lines. In a good season Auckland pastovalists might expect to net £400,000 from to-day’s sale. At today’s rates the net return, if all had been sold, will probably be under £240,000. WOOL SALES. LONDON, Jan. 21. The wool sale's opened with a ten to twenty per cent decline.
