Over the southern hills of the Barrier this morning appeared a long black line moving slowly towards the camp. It was Gould’s geological party returning from the sledging journey of fifteen hundred miles—that is only a little less than the distance from here to the Pole and back, and is one of the longest ever rhade in the Antarctic. The bearded travellers were given a wonderful reception
