PARACHUTE BRIDE. “GET MARRIED AND JUMP” PARTY. NEW YORK, Nov. 1. Miss Marjorie- Klinger, aged 18, and Mr Donald Babcock, 20, are probably the first couple to substitute a parachute jump or the conventional wedding march. After being married yesterday in an aeroplane 2,100 ft. in the air, they s.epped out of the open door. In her excitement the bride, who went first fell I,oooft. before she pulled the rip-cord. Then the bridegroom, ill an attempt to catch her, almost foil I,oooft. Altogether there were 14 people in this “get married and jump, party,” but Mr Eugene Kraus, the best man, was the only other person to follow the bridal couple. Mr Kraus, in landing narrowly missed a concrete-mixer. JEWEL SMUGGLERS, CHERBOURG, November 1. When the United States liner Leviathan arrived at Cherbourg to-day tic special police boarded her and arrested two first-class passengers, Mr Samuel Friedman and Miss Rose Friedman. it had been notified by the New York police that they were in possession of jewellery alleged to have been stolen. They were asked if they had anything to declare and they replied in the negative they were searched and a quantity of jewellery of the estimated value of £B,OOO, chiefly 'platinum and precious stones, was found in the lining of their clothing. They-are to he prosecuted for attempting to defraud the French Customs after which they will, he placed at the disposal of the American authorities.
