Westland Competitions Society.
A sub-committee,! of the Westland Competitions Society met on Tuesday and revised the Competition programme for the next festival to open about May Bth. Some additions were made to the juvenile section of the elocutionary section, and in the musical section, a ladies’ solo (open) own selection, was added, as also a national song (own selection")'. For the choir test a four par glee has been added, in the instrumental section, additional daisses have been .added for piano solo and duet, and violin solo (all own selection). In tbe choral singing and action chorus, the classes have been fixed definitely for pupils attending the competing schools. Character dances have been added to the dancing section. In the instrumental section for juveniles (piano solo) a. bursary of five guineas is to be awarded the juvenile player who in the opinion of the musical judge shows, the greatest promise in the four classes of varying age. Ibis distinctive prize should add considerably to the value of this particular competition. The judges, have how been asked to select tbe test pieces with a view to the early issue of the booklet.
