The cricket match, Manawatu \crsus M.C.C. commenced in dull, threatening weather. Gilligan won the toss. Manawatu are batting. The Manawatu batsmen did not open well against the howling of the Englishmen. After' a succession of maiden oversatile first wicket fell with the scorepat ten. The wickets fell freely and at 1 p.m., o were down for 28. • ’ •
In the remaining fifteen minutes before ' the luncheon adjournment England got two more Manawatu wickets, the score then l>eing seven for 65. A fruitful partnership between A. M.
