GREYMOUTH CARNIVAL. At Greymouth last evening a swimming carnival was held m the Municipal baths. Men’s 33 1-3 yds handicap:—Boyes (4) 1, Wills (4; 2. Also started:— Taaffe (2), Doogan (2). Time 21secs. Won by a touch. Schoolboys’ luuyds Championship.— N. Jarden 1. Time 96 secs. Girls' 33 l-3yds handicap.—'V. Daly (2) 1, P .Gillooly (scr.) 2. Won ly a yard. Time 25 secs. 100yds Intermediate A\ est Coast Championship. —H. l>’Leary 1, J. On 2. Also started: Diedrich and French. O’Leary was in front at the end m tho first lap, -and hung on to it till the finish, winning by four feet from Orr. Time 1.17 3-5. 100yds West Coast Championship.— A. H. Cunningham (Hokitika) 1, S. Mulloy 2, J. Hardie 3. Also started: Boyes, Lind, Restieaux. The race developed into a contest between Cunningham and Mulloy. The former went to the front from the start, and although over the last lap Mulloy spumed to catch the leader, the Hokiiikt man proved himself equal to the tas.-. of a yard advantage to the finish. Time 71 4-5.

Time 26 .2-5. 220yds Men’s Handicap.—S. Mulloy User) 1/-C. Restieaux (9) 2, A. H. Ciinmiigham (scr) 3. Also started: P. Doogin (14). Dongah-took the lead from the dive, while Cunningham lost slight]v at the start, and was never prominent. AVith half the journey comp/eted Doogan had a ?big lead, witli Mulloy making up his handicap. AVith 40 yards to go, Doogan retired. and Mulloy went to the front, goinv on to win easily by six yards. 1 ime 3.3 3-5. Boys’ Dive—AA r atson 28pts 1, Diedrich 25pts 2. Five started. Men’s Dive.—M. AUCKLAND CARNIVAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. At the carnival to-night .the Australian swimmers, Griffiths and Ryan, were successful in defeating Bridsun, the New Zealand champion and record holder. In the 220.vds scratch race, Griffiths won by three yards in 2 mins 24 2-6 secs, breaking Bridqon’s Dominion record by 1 4-5 secs. Griffiths set <• fast pace, and this made way f QI Ryan t 0 defeat Bridson, who tired badly, by a touch. Ryan, off three st-o;>As. won the 100 yards handicap, Griffiths (scr.) bejitig second Rridsoh also started off scratch 'in this event, Griffiths beating him by three yards. . There was a record attendance, and the swimmers received a great ovation. In the ladies’ breaststroke Auckland championship, over 220yds, Mis 1 - G. Pidgeon defeated Miss J. Thomson bv 6vds in 3 mins 27 secs, which is 1 2-5 secs outside her own New Zealand record.
Miss Pidgeon, who was making a reappearance alteir a year’s rebiiement, has been included in the Auckland representative team for the actional Championships at Greymoutli.
