Miss Carol Morrison, first woman solicitor, speaking at the Fabian Society irevealed the widespread 'habit among young women of marrying in order to get what was really a life pension. She said:—“They have no children. They do not want them. Then they tire of looking after their husbands and so they accuse them of cruelty and apply for a separation. There ai'e many Magistrates who grant these women the maximum allowance of forty shillings weekly, when a man’s income is only three pounds.”
