RABAT, Morocco, November 23,

A flight of locusts extending over a front of 25 miles and lasting three hours Swept down upon the city of Marakesh, the ancient capital of Morocco. yesterday. So dense was the flight that the sky was obscured. Immediate steps wer taken to flight the insects, and every available soldier was mobilised to shovel them into heaps and set fire to them after they had been drenched with petrol. M. Lueien Saint, tile ResidentGeneral, ordered an aeroplane to follow the movements of the devasting hordes. The aerolplane was beset by countless millions of insects, which the " : lo+ sprayed with gas, forcing masses of them to the ground. Soldiers and civilians gathered up 15,000 sacks of the insects. The Sheroefian Government has set aside a sum of £IOO,OOO to carry on the war against the locusts.
