EFFECT OF LIGHTNING. RIO DE JAMERO, Jan. 12. Sven men and three women were killed when lightning short-circuited an electric plant at Fazenda, San Antonio, in the State of Sao Paulo. The ordinary lighting circuits ■ have five thousand volts.
THREATS OF VIOLENCE. GENEVA. Jan. 13. Extraordinary precautions are being taken to guard the delegates of the League Council. 1 A young Zurich man was arrested attempting to enter the Chamber. He carried a revolver loaded with blank cartridges. He explained he intended to fire the weapon to attract the Council’s attention to the need for finding a cure for cancer from which his father was suffering.
MOTOR BOAT' TRAGEDY
CAPETOWN, Jan. 13
Five lives were lost in a motor boat disaster at Tamarind, on the west coast of Mauritius. The boat was used for shark fishing and was being tested. The engine failed, and a sail was being improvised but a strong gust of wind caused it to capsize. The occupants swam for the /shore, all except one being taken by sharks.
