AIR PIPE FOULED

(Australian 'Press Association) NEWCASTLE, Jan. 14. Andrew Hofferman, a driver, met a terrible fate in the harbour when the supply of air was cut off by a wire becoming tangled around his helmet and fouling the air pipe.

Another diver, John Gear, who was Working with Hofferman saw his"mate in difficulties on the bottom and made frantic efforts to release him. Groping his way to Hofferman’s side he removed the obstruction and gave the signal to- be brought up, but when The surface was reached Hofferman was, bleeding from the ears, and artificial methods of resuscitation were unavailing.
