Preliminary skirmishes ‘in a legal battle between private citizens and the Crown, in which £44,000,000 is at if A . |j; ‘* stake, is expected this week. It is a test case in a petition of right in which the Civilian War Claimants’ Assn, is seeking compensation out of German reparations for injury and loss due to German attacks, notably the bombardment of Scarborough, Whitby and Hartlepool, whereby a hundred civilians were killed and five hundred injured.
SQHACHT’S ULTIMATUM

Schacht’s ultimatum has interest to Australia and New Zealand in the demand that all participating countries recognise the rights of. private property. This, however,.tis interpreted as an attack on Air Philip Snowden’s refusal to return fourteen millions worth of German property .sequestrated by Britain, which the German Government recently accepted as final.
Schacht also “demands The Hague protocol not to include the Sanctions Clause. The ultimatum is regarded as Schacht’s challenge to the German Government.
