A SCATHING ATTACK.
IN TJ.S.A. CONGRESS.
[United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. ]
WASHINGTON, Jan. 12,
Representative Schafer, in a remarkable speech in the United States House of Representatives attacked the prohibition enforcement law: “If the divine Christ were Himself to appear on earth to-day and to attend a wedding feast in this nation’s capitol in these days of prohibition, and if He were again to perform the miracle of transforming water into wine, some fanatical prohibition demogogue from a State where tall corn grows and strong booze flows, clothing himself in robes of righteousness, would no doubt appear before the Grand Jury, and would demand that the Saviour should be indicted on no other evidence than a keen sense of smell and laboratory experience!”
ARE U.S.A. POLICE OVER-
WORKED ?
WASHINGTON, Jan. 10. The President’s Crime Commission has) made a preliminary statement showing that the Government’s law enforcement machinery is unquestionably inadequate, and that the pressure of the prohibition, automobile thefts, white slave traffic, immigration, and other criminal laws has overtaxed Its capacity.
