AMERICAN RUNNER, IN SYDNEY

The American athlete, Lermond, appeared in the Mile Invitation Handicap, which was run in' drizzling rain, conceding big starts. The event resulted: Dillon (Eastern Suburbs) 45yds. 1, Brooke (St. George) 85yds. 2, Jepperson (Eastern Suburbs) 65yds. 3. Lermond (U.S;) scr was fourth. The winner’s time was 4.29 4-5 and Lermond’s time was 1.34. He expects another’s week’s training will bring him into form.
RECORDS BROKEN
(Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 13
At yesterday’s athletic sports, Carlton equalled the Australian record of 9 4-sths secs, for one hundred yards handicap, heating McKinnon by two yards, and Vaughan by three lengths. Clarice Kennedy (Western Suburbs) from scr. won the women’s 80 metres hurdles, heating R. Winton by 2 yards and N. Gould by three yards. Kennedy’s time, secs, is a world’s record.
Miss Von Bredow (Germany) the present, record holder’s time was 12 4-sths.
