SCOTSMAN’S CHEAP TRIP

Samuel Weir, aged nineteen years of age, of Blantyre, Scotland, was charged as Eastham as being a stowaway aboard the steamer Rangitiki. The prosecutor said that Weir, carrying a suitcase ana’ a iikelele, boarded the Rangitiki at Wellington among the passengers. He told a steward that he had cabin 392. after which for ; twenty
days, he was served a.v a passenger with food. He also participated in the ship’s danfees and entertainments. Then after tlVe 20 days, the real occupant of the cabin, which had hot been required on the first part of the voyage, arrived. Weir had by this’time defrauded the company of £4O. When challenged, Weir said: “That is all right! My people will pay.”
A further £8 was spent, at their request, in wirelessing, but it was then discovered that his people were' not in a position to pay. Weil 5 , who was smartly dressed, did hot conceal his
amusement during the prosecutor’s recital. He was fined £s'.
