FINANCIER’S DEATH
HELPER OF JABEZ BALFOUR.
LONDON, December 24. When Jabez 'Balfour was released from prison, an unnamed city magnate, as related in Bramwell Booth's reinmscences, twice made efforts to give him a fresh start. He first gave him a chance to make good in the Far Fast, but city influences caused the attempt to fail. Then he gave him a position in Wales. Balfour entrained at London, full of hope, but died on the way.
Commissioner David Lamb, of the Salvation Army, in a letter, reveals that the unnamed city magnate was Air Tiiden-Smith, who dropped dead in the blouse of Commons on Wednesday.
-Mr Tiiden-Smith, before his death, devised a c oal scheme, based on a complete reorganisation of the industry, and improved methods of production, by which he believed wages could be increased and the price reduced The plan is now in the Government’s possession.
