INATTENTION.
CAR DRIVER FINED. [United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] LONDON, Jan. 9. A Nf'v Zealand Architect. Arnyas Dougla Connell, residing; at West .End, a .vifiner of tiro Rome Architecture : v .cholarship, was charged at Marlborough Street Court with negligently driving his ear in Piccadilly on 19th November. The police gave evidence he drove into a lightened refuge, smashed a post and his car {was jovciritwriietLi Mrs Stewart who was with hint was injured and died the following day. Connell pleaded not guilty.' He said he dined <|liie-tly with two friends and Mrs Stewart. She was ill before the dinner suffering from iriaio'ia for which she took quinine. He drove her home at the request of
friends. His npeed was 18 to 20 miles per hour. He did not remember much hut ho believed his car skidded. He was also dazzled by lights and misjudged the distance from the refuge. The Magistrate expressed the opinion that the accident was the result of inattention and lined the accused £lO sterling ivitli £5 costs, his lie- j enso being suspended for six months.
