Ryan and Griffiths were permitted to visit New Zealand providing they returned in time for the State championships on January 15th and 18tlr. To the astonishment of officials who were relying on the swimmers leaving New Zealand yesterday, a cable was received stating they would not return until January 31st.

James Taylor (president of the Aus>alian Swimming Union) has now Cabled Griffiths ordering him and Ryan not to compete in any further races.
