BYRD EXPEDITION
NEW ZEALANDERS ABOARD CITY OF NEW YORK. DUNEDIN, January 6. 'fhe Byrd Expedition ship City of New York, which left Dunedin on Sunday afternoon, and berthed at- Port Chalmers owing to the unfavourable weather, sailed at 8 a.m. to-day for the Bay of Whales. The wind was fresh from the nor’-west and once clear of the Heads the vessel was under sail on her long voyage. Among the New Zealanders in the ship’s personnel on the present trip to southern latitudes are Messrs R. J'. Orbcll, wireless expert, of Auckland; B. Robinson and J. Robinson, Auckland; P. Wallace. Sawyer’s Bay; M. C. Wool house, H. L. Wilson, S. V. Armstrong, Hi P. Young, and T. Lockwood, all of whom are from, different parts of the Dominion. Air A. Brustal, who nails from Norway, and who up till recently was chief guide at the Hermitage, Alt. Cook, joined the ship as a seaman, and an Australian, Air W. Grib ben, joined as cook. With the exception of Alessrs Or bell, Wallace and Lockwood, the other New Zealanders mentioned all shipped as seamen.
