OBITUARY.
DEAN HARPER OF CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 6. The Very Rev. Walter Harper, eighth son of the first Bishop of Christchurch, died to-day in his 82ml year. He came to Christchurch in 18(55. lie was educated at Christ’s College, and Trinity College, Oxford, graduating M. A. in 1873. He was ordained priest in the same year by tho Bishop of Chester, and returned to New Zealand three years later. He was vicar of various parishes in Canterbury till his retirement in 1913. From 1897 to 1919 he was a Fellow and Sub-Warden of Christ’s College, and a member of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College from 1897 to 1923. Me was twice married, and is survived by a widow and one ■ son and two daughters by his first marriage.
