WORLD RECORD

SET BY BRADMAN

(Australian Press Association)

SYDNEY, January 6

In the Sheffield Shield cricket match aga nst Queensland, New South Wales in the second innings made 761 for eight wickets declared. Bradman made 452 not out, McCahle 60, and Allsopp 66. In the howling Harwood took six for 179, and Thompson 1 for 243. Queensland in the second innings made 72 for 7. Gough scored twenty, and O’Connor seventeen Stumps were then drawn. Don Bradman’s achievement in breaking the world’s record for the highest score in a first-class match is given headlines in the Australian news papers. The crowd on the ground gave him a wonderful ovation, lasting many minutes. Good judges, freely concede him brilliance and resourcefulness stamps him as the champioh batsmen of our day. Even when deing the crack bowler, Hurwood, lie declined to let up. The previous holder of the world’s record was Ponsofrd who scored 437 against Queensland in December 1927-28.

Bradman’s innings was much better than Ponsford’s as Bradman’s 452 runs not out were made in 406 utes, compared with Ponsford’s 437 in 621 minutes. Bradman is the only batsman who has twice exceeded three hundred on the Sydney ground. Bradmail compiled some of his runs to-day. in a hurricane-like fashion, while the partnership between himself and McCabe, who also batted stylishly, is described as the most entertaining witnessed here for many years. Both are mere youths in their twenties. Congratulatory telegrams for Bradman reached the cricket ground from all over Australia.
