LATE LOCALS.
Mr and Mrs J. Paterson and family insert a notice of thanks in-this issue. The death occurred on Wednesday at Blenheim of Mr J. S. Jermyn, grandfather of Archdeacon Jermyn, cf Greymouth, aged 89 years. Mr Jermyn arrived at. Nelson in 1841 and was an eye .witness of the Wiairau massacre. He was a farmer until he retired. The Westport Fire Brigade were called out at 2 o’clock on Saturday morning to a fire' which had broken out in the footwarmer shed, at the south side of the railway station in Westport. The fire also extended to the coal and oil store, both of which were gutted. The Brigade managed to prevent the fire extending to other buildings. As the footwarmer shed 'lias not been in' use. for some time, the cause of the fire there is 'a mysr tery. Constable Spence, from the Police quarters, noticed the glare and rang up the Fire Brigade Station. About the same time, a boarder at Holder’s Hotel noticed the fire and endeavoured to get in touch with the Brigade, but the ’phone was evidently then in use by the police.
