SHERIFF SHOOTS WOMAN.

NEW YORK, November 2,

The annals of Prohibition have to record another woman’s death in the snooting of Mrs Louise Horton, who was killed last night by' the Sheriff from the running-board of her own jar as it sped through Herington, A a nsas. It was a duel to death, according to the story of Sheriff Dederick. ■ He received information that a car laden with 40 gallons of liquor was leaving Kansas City for a house near the town of Herington. He waited near the house, and the car arrived, but although threatened with a revolver, the occupants, Mrs Horton and her chauffeur refused to pull up, and drove off at full speed. The sheriff leaped on the runningboard, only to find a revolver poked against his ribs by Mrs Horton, who sat on his side of the car. “Jump,’’ she cried, ‘jump, or "I will shoot.” The' car raced on, and the woman called out: “Here’s where I’ll let you have it unless you jump.” “But,” said the sheriff, “I got in first.” Then he said to the chauffeur. “You are next,’ where-upon the man stopped the car. The chaffenr said that he was merely hired to drive the car and supported the sheriff’s story that Mrs Horton carried a revolver. The police state that the woman, who was 3o years of age, was associated with a ring that ran numerous sills.
