EVERYBODYS PICTURES PAULINE FREDERICK IN “MUMSIE.” ..'••It is’ a long time since patrons of the princess Theatre have had such an "acceptable. entertainment as the Metro-Qoiilwyn-Mayer picture, “Mumsie',V ujiicli is the current attraction. •This ■ 'is for the reason that, in addi|idri. to a dramatic and enthralling Story',’ Pauline Frederick is starred. This 1 exceptionally fine actress is well known to Australasians through her appearance' on tlie stage out here, as well .as in several notable screen triumphs/, and the personal contact has endeared her to almost everybody. In particularly happy re-union with the thdusands .whose' admiration -for. her can never be shaken. It'is th§ i; picture version of the stage play by Edward ithoblock, which took London by
storm, and which has been' brought I to' the screen by Herbert Wilcox with gripping; realism. The story centres ardiind a French family which is presided over by a particularly devoted mother, known to all as “Mumsie,” whose best-loved son, a moral weakling, betrays her'love and trust, and of the sacrifice she forces him to make in order to retrieve his honour. An enthralling story, built on human incidents, it is presented with absorbing interest . as each dramatic incident mounts; up on its predecessors. The climax is one of the most powerful within memory. Miss Frederick gives the most compelling performance, of her ’career as “Mumsie,” as she is ably by Donald McCardle, Nelson Keys, Her- > bert Marshall and Frank Starimoor, while the rest of the cast has been excellently chosen. The usual supports will also l>e shown and the orchestra will play the incidental score. 'Tuesday: Charles Farrell and Greta Nissen in “Fossil.” ,
