PALMERSTON N., Jan. 3

Unusual circumstances surround tho discovery last evening of a man lying unconscious Jon the pavement in the Square shortly after nine o’clock. Constables on the boat were called to the man’s assistance. He was obviously seriously ill and was removed to the police station. A doctor (was sum'moned. A stomach pump was, used to counteract the effects of poison. The man stated lie refused to give his name. All personal papers had been destroyed. It is ascertained he came from Auckland on New Year’s, Eve and is apparently about thirty-two years of age. He was hospitalled.
