LABOR’S WARNING

y : TO WAFD MINISTRY,

[United Press Association—By Electric Telegrnph.—Copyright.]

LONDON, January 1

The Daily Herald Labour paper purlishes a. leading article on the information of the Wafd ministry in Egypt by Nahas Pasha as the result of the Wafd’s victory in the election. It is expected Nahas will intimate to his Parliament his intention to negotiate a treaty with Britain on the basis of Mr Henderson’s proposals. While recognising that Nahas will he within his right hi asking for a modificateion of details, labour urges him to remember that the essentials of the proposals do represent the extreme limit, to which the British Government has had to face a strong attack for going so far. It will stand by its offer to Egypt hut Egyptians must co-operate. Were they to ask not merely for minor modifications but for amendments touching the substance of the proposals their pressure for a change in one direction would be met by an insistent pressure for a change in other directions and the ’treaty might take form not more but less favourable to Egypt than the proposals. By accepting the substance of proposals as unalterable they will be safe guarding themselves as well as, facilitating the speedy signatures of the treaty.
