The Indian National Congress in onen session at Lahore unanimously approved of Gandhi's independence resolution and for the boycott of the Legislature’s amendment by Bose, the Bengal Extremist. The setting up of a parallel government and the boycott, of schools was rejected by a big majority.
Puiulit-Malavivas amendment for the postponment of questions till Apri was also rejected. A resolution congratulating the Viceroy (Lord Irwin) on bis escape in the bomb outrage was passed. Gandhi moving the latter resolution declared "it was not merely a courtesy to pass this resolution, ii was a matter of duty, if they believed that the political salvation of India could come only through the creed of non-violence. Indians should consider themselves trustees of the safety of 'Europeans, who chose to stay in India. Gandhi in a characteristic speech reiterated an appeal for no violence thus winning freedom. He declared the Congress would never participate, in a conference with Britain upon which the basis of discussion was not complete independence. Amid cries of “God bless you,” he left the stage. It is estimated that half the Congress is composed of Bengalis.! The Legislatures ignore Gandhi's plan for the boycott of the Legislatures.
