MOTOR TRAGEDY
TWO KILLED AND SEVERAL HURT.' (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) January. 1. A motor collision with fatal , consequences took place, on the Lower Portobello Road about 5 o’clock this morning between a motor car and a motor parcels van. The vehicle met on a fairly straight piece of road, which, was in good order, and it is difficult to say how the collision 'occurred, as the accounts' of the parties interviewed are somewhat conflicting. As the result of the accident, David V. Wilkins (driver of the van) and David Edwards (a passenger on the motor car) were killed practically outright, and James Todd, petrol station proprietor, and Donald McNaughton Peterson, were conveyed to the hospital in an unconscious condition, suffering from severe injuries. Others in the vehicle were slightly injured.
MOTOR CYCLE TRAGEDY. AUCKLAND, January 1. Fatal injuries were sustained by Arnold McKee, aged 18, when lie was thrown from his motor cycle as the result of a collision with a motoi delivery van at Mount Albert intersection on Tuesday. I Robert Buchanan aged 14, who was riding on the pillion seat, sustained head injuries. His condition is not serious. CJTRTSTCHURCH FATALITIES. CHRISTCHURCH, January J. J. H. McGarry, while motor cycling home to Sunnier last night, collided with a car driven by Danny Stoneman, and died in the hospital to-day from the injuries received, including fractured skull and leg. The body of Robert Anderson Robertson, aged seven years, was found in Phillipstown School baths last evening. He had been noticed paddling in the shallow end earlier in the day, but left with companions. No one noticed Ins return, and the tragedy was not discovered till his parent instituted a search.
