SUICIDE PACT

AUCKLAND TRAGEDY

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association ) AUCKLAND, January 1. Mysterious circumstances, includ ing the iinding of a number of letter:indicating the existence of a suicide pact, attend the disappearance of ; resident of Edeiulale, John Llewellyn Davies, of laumata Road, and the finding of a woman, Mrs Julia Cubitt, who has been residing at the Auckland institute of Trained Nurses in Liverpool Street, who was discovered unconscious on the Eastern Tide Deflector in the Harbour this morning. Only a short distance aivay were found articles of clothing belonging to both, and a number of letters writtei by both in which they stated their in tentiou of dying together. The woihar. was removed to Auckland Hospital where to-night she is still unconscious and in a serious condition. Pie fore Mrs Cubitt was found, a man’s bat and coat, alongside which were a woman’s mackintosh and Inn were found. (I’he police found a mini her of letters written' by Davies and Mrs Cubitt is which bdtli intimated that they were about to enter a suicide pact and drown themselves. The man’s overcoat, a brown tweed garment, was later identified as one similar to that which Davies had been wearing, as was the hat, a howler, while the brown mackintosh, which was found covered a whole heap of garments belonging to Mrs Cubitt.

A search of the waterfront has been made fruitlessly for Davies, who left home on Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs Cubitt is 33 years of age, and is divorced from her husband. There is one child.

Davies, who bad a wife and one child was 45. Ho was well-known in wireless circles.
