RADIO CHAIN

The Association of Radio Transmitters. at their first annual convention at Auckland, approval of an organised radio chain to be established early in the new year, Mr Brown, of Christchurch, the Chairman, said that tire great need of a chain had been demonstrated during the recent earthquake in the South Island, when a definite relay system could have given valuable assistance to the devastated areas. The chain could be made available for the P. and T. Department during any interruption of communications through storms or other causes. The strength of the Association was 250 members, and it was rapidly increasing. It was agreed that Sunday evening be the principal night, the telegraph offices being then closed. The finalised scheme was left to a Special Committee. A ballot resulted in the election of Mr Clarkson (Dunedin) as ltominion President; Air Edwards (Auckland) as Vice-President. The Conference head-quarters next year will be Wellington.
