Despite the Italian Government’s propaganda against birth control, the Italian birth rate for the past nine months show a decline ol 29,480 when compared with the corresponding period of last year. RUSSIAN NAVALS. ACT AS PROPAGANDISTS ABROAD. LONDON, December 28. The “Times’ ” Paris correspondent reports that, despite the precautions of the authorities, the crews of the Soviet warships “PariskayaV and “Kommuna” succeeded in distributing Propaganda among the dockyard “Mateys” at Brest, who, however, did not receive the full enlightment which the Bolshevists intended, as the leaflets were printed in Russia. This is not believed by the Dutch press, which urges that the air lines should take another route, thus avoiding the British territory. GALES IN WESTERN EUROPE. LONDON, December 29. There are renewed gales along the coast, and extending inland. They are responsible for considerable damage, having torn off roofs, and uprooted large trees. A house collapsed at Manchester, burying a mother. and her daughter beneath the debris, and injuring four children. The German steamer “Hermione” was overwhelmed in the Channel, but the captain, his wife and child, and the crew were rescued in a. spectacular manner after, a stern struggle by a Margate lifeboat. The waterlogged steamer drifted before the gale, being a menace to shipping, but it was subsequently located and was anchored. TIDAL WAVE AT HAVRE. PARIS, Dec. 29. A gale has swept the whole of Northern France. Great havoc has resulted among trees, houses, and telegraph wires. There was-a miniature tidal wave at Havre. It swept over the quays and flooded part of the city. It sank a tug. Two were drowned. Many oif the trans-Channel'services and all of the air lines are suspended.
